Live From Detroit

For the next twelve months in addition to other lenticular projects I
will be documenting the distinguished sounds of the Detroit music scene.
The resulting show entitled, "Live From Detroit," will feature the very
best currently performing bands with roots in the city and will be completely 3D. While Detroit
is many things (apocalyptic wasteland?) it is certainly home to a
long musical legacy that continues to produce bands of amazing
influence. I will be dragging my giant camera to locations around the
city to capture it as it happens with plans to debut the show in the
spring of 2009.
Update:
It has been a lot of fun putting this project together, Detroit
music is the best! The list has settled to a "mere" 24 bands, bands
I personally think are some of the best ever to come from the city. Everyone,
from band members to event space owners, has been completely wonderful
and generous in every way. The experimental nature of the equipment has
caused some problems at times; MOCAD’s invisible sea of radio waves
completely disabled my wireless setup and the unseen spectrum at the
Magic Stick is only slightly better. The Lager House has been the most
trouble free place to shoot and with some of the best acts coming
through the small space it seems like I am there every weekend. The
photos from these late nights document Detroit at
its finest. The show of 3D photographs, anaglyph and lenticular, will
debut at the Contemporary Art Institute of Detroit summer of 2009 and
other cities thereafter. It would make a nice coffee table book too, any
publishers in the house? |
